Quality Assurance, Learning and Improvement Framework

Professionals and organisations protecting children need to reflect on the quality of their services and learn from their own practice and that of others. Good practice should be shared so that there is a growing understanding of what works well. Conversely, when things go wrong there needs to be a rigorous, objective analysis of what happened and why, so that important lessons can be learnt and services improved to reduce the risk of future harm to children.

Working Together to Safeguard Children, 2015, page 72

Working Together (2015) states thatLocal Safeguarding Children Boards should maintain a local learning and improvement framework which is shared across local organisations who work with children and families. This framework should enable organisations to be clear about their responsibilities, to learn from experience and improve services as a result’. In response, the SSCB has developed a Quality Assurance, Learning and Improvement Framework. This document outlines this process through:

  • A Summary of the Case Reviews, Performance Management and Quality Assurance Work undertaken or commissioned by the SSCB and a description of how the learning from each is fed into the Board;

  • An Outline of Board Partner Responsibilities to learn from experience and improve services in response to these findings;

  • Improving Practice through disseminating learning to frontline practitioners in order to improve practice and lead to better outcomes for children;

The SSCB, including all partner agencies, are committed to being a learning Board, using the work described in this framework to assure it of the safeguarding practices in the city and to effectively challenge in order to improve services. This framework clearly outlines the cycle of learning and how the ongoing work can enable the Board to learn from and improve their safeguarding services for children and families

A copy of the Quality Assurance, Learning and Improvement Framework is available to download in our procedures manual.
