SPRING 24 UPDATES: We are updating our website. Please use the search bar if you can’t find the information you need or contact SCSP to make recommendations for updates.

All staff with regular child contact

Based on feedback from training we now offer a 'mixed delivery model' for training. This means some courses have face-to-face delivery and some courses will have online delivery. Please see the notes by the course date for details.

Please note, we do not offer hybrid training courses, where some participants are online and some are in-person

The Training Pathway (available in the mustard box on the left of this page) for all staff with regular contact with children and young people in education settings is:

  • Safeguarding Children Induction (from DSL/S onsite)
  • Safeguarding in Education e-learning
  • Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training

Safeguarding Children Induction (from DSL/D onsite):

This is required for all staff and volunteers, including clerical & business support, Heads, teachers, ancillary, support and pastoral staff using as a minimum the Staff & Volunteer Safeguarding Induction Pack, Sept 22 - Updated for September 22

It should be delivered face-to-face by the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy (DSL/D) to individuals or groups, at the beginning of their employment.

This training does not replace the Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training.

Safeguarding in Education e-learning:

This free course is for staff and volunteers working in an education setting. It is a useful introduction to safeguarding but does not replace the Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training.

The course considers key legislation, signs of abuse and neglect, safe working practices, concerns about a child or young person, and early intervention. It will also introduce some current issues including Child Sexual Exploitation, Female Genital Mutilation and Prevent.

To apply, please use this link for the self-registration process.

Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training:

For all staff in education settings who have regular contact with children and young people. The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership (SCSP) requires staff to complete this face to face training every 3 years.

From September 2022 Basic Safeguarding training will begin to return to face-to-face delivery in settings as the preferred method of delivery. If virtual training (similar to face-to-face training but with 'blended' delivery from a 'virtual' trainer and in-house exercises) is required, please note this on the application form.

Basic SCIE training is delivered in 2 ways:

  • Whole-setting - a course for all staff in one setting; use this application form to request: Whole-setting Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training Request Form, March 23.  Settings are able to choose whether the preference is for face to face or virtual delivery.  Preferences will be accommodated wherever possible.

  • Centralised  - a course run for staff from different settings; all courses in the table below will run from 8:45am (registration) for 9am start to 3pm. Please note that for the academic year 2022-23 half the courses will be face-to-face, and half the courses will be online delivery. The method of delivery is noted next to the date of the training course.

Please note: places on the Basic Centralised course will be prioritised for staff who are going to take on a role in the safeguarding team at their setting and need to complete this course as a priority before attending the Advanced Initial course. Staff will also be prioritised if they have not attended the basic safeguarding course in the last 3 years. Staff who have missed their 3 yearly basic safeguarding for other reasons will be asked to attend the basic course at a setting which has a basic safeguarding course scheduled as soon as possible. The training team will support you in contacting settings that have a basic safeguarding course coming up.
