Safeguarding Children - Vulnerable People and Gambling

Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board (now called The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership SCSP) is the Responsible Authority for the protection of children and vulnerable people from harm, at premises where gambling activities take place.   We work closely with our partner agencies and with licensed gambling operators, to make sure that environments are safe and that activities remain safe and responsible. This includes operators implementing:

  • Age verification schemes
  • Incident reports
  • A safeguarding risk assessment
  • Safeguarding awareness training for people working in a gambling environment

In November 2018, the Safeguarding Children Board in partnership with the Licensing Authority, Public Health and William Hill Ltd, produced a safeguarding awareness training resource for people working in gambling environments, to help them recognise and report when a child or vulnerable person may be at risk of harm. The resource includes:

The resources can be downloaded for use in licensed gambling settings. They can be shared and adapted providing an acknowledgement is made to the Sheffield partnership, for any materials used.

If you are an operator and need assistance with using the resources, or for further information please contact our licensing managers: SCSPsafeguardinglicensing@sheffield.gov.uk
