The Licensing Project
This was commissioned by the Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) (now called The Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership SCSP) to execute the statutory duties (conferred upon it as the 'Responsible Authority' by the Licensing Act 2003) to protect children from harm.

The Licensing Project works in consultation with partners, including enforcement agencies, education, health and social care workers, children and young people and the licensed trades.
The Licensing Project's Remit
The project aims to support the Licensing Authority and licensed operators to meet the core objectives of the legislation and to ensure that an effective and meaningful response is made in terms of safeguarding children at licensed premises. This is being achieved in the following ways:
- Provision of training, guidance and practical resources
- Face to face engagement with people working in the licensed trade
- Partnership work and consultation
- The Child Protection in Licensing Task Group
- Advocating the assignment of a ‘Safeguarding Co-ordinator at licensed premises or events
The project has attained a reputation for innovative work, locally and nationally and has received local, regional and national awards for its proactive approach. We routinely share our good practice and strategic approach with other organisations and Local Authorities. The work being undertaken by the project has raised the awareness of safeguarding issues within the licensing and broader community, contributing to the evolution of a family friendly culture that is safer for children and young people.
