Sheffield Safeguarding Hub - change to telephone welcome message from 12 January 2026

From Monday 12th January 2026 the telephone options on the Safeguarding Hub telephone number 0114 273 4855 are changing as follows;

When you call 0114 273 4855 the welcome message will be;

Welcome to Sheffield Children & Families Services. These calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes. Please listen to all 3 options before making your selection.

  • Press 1 if you have an allocated worker.

Calls will be answered by a Business Support team who will connect you with the allocated worker.

  • Press 2 For advice and support options for a child, young person or family.

There would then be a further recorded message after Option 2 is pressed stating;

Did you know that the Sheffield Directory at www.sheffielddirectory.co.uk has information about the wide range of support services and the Local Offer for families with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities.

If you would like to speak to someone for advice on how best to get additional support for a child, young person or family, hold the line to be connected to a member of our early help team who will be happy to advise you.

Calls will then be answered by our Early Help Hub team with the option to leave a voicemail for a call back if the line is busy. The caller will be offered advice and signposting to help them to access the right support to meet the needs of the child, young person or family.

  • Press 3 if you believe a child or young person is at risk of significant harm or has been harmed.

These calls will go initially to a Business Support team to take basic caller details and then to a senior social worker for a conversational telephone assessment to understand the reasons for your concerns and to decide on next steps. Conversations provide the best possible opportunity to help us understand what you are concerned about and ask appropriate questions to determine a child or young person’s circumstances and what help they may need.
