See the Child. Join the Dots. Change the Outcome: SCSP Community of Practice Learning Event

Friday 15 January 2027 | 9.00am-12.00pm | Howden House

Throughout 2026, the Multi-Agency Audit Group explored practice in relation to Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA), and Severe School Absence. While the cases were very different, the learning was remarkably consistent. Audits highlighted examples of strong partnership working, but also identified recurring challenges in understanding children's lived experiences, recognising cumulative harm, developing effective safety plans, and escalating concerns when progress stalled.

This practical learning event will bring together the key messages emerging from Sheffield's audits alongside national learning from the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel's Persistent Themes.

Together we will explore:

Designed for practitioners, supervisors and managers working with children and families, the session will focus on practical application rather than theory, using real learning from local audits to strengthen day-to-day safeguarding practice.

We particularly encourage attendance by supervisors who play a critical role in helping practitioners make sense of complex information, maintaining focus on children's lived experiences, providing reflective oversight, and recognising when cases are becoming stuck. The event will offer practical approaches to supervision, case discussion, safety planning and escalation that can be taken straight back into team meetings, supervision sessions and quality assurance activity.

Whether you are working in education, health, children's social care, police, youth justice or the voluntary sector, this event will help you turn learning into action and strengthen the impact of safeguarding practice for children and families across Sheffield.
